It says that whoever has sexual intercourse with a person who is and whom he knows to be or has reason to believe to be the wife of another man, without the consent or connivance of that man, such sexual intercourse not amounting to rape, is guilty of the offence of adultery, and shall be punished with simple or rigorous imprisonment for a term extending up to five years, or with fine, or with both. In such case the wife shall not be punishable as an abettor. ADVERTISEMENTS: The section contemplates that a man must have sexual intercourse with a woman who is the wife of another man and about whom he must have knowledge or must have reason to believe that she is the wife of another man. This sexual intercourse must take place without the consent or connivance of that man.
